Times they be a changing

With a new baby on the way we need to make some room for the baby girl and move things around. We have four bedrooms… the master, Cole’s, a guest room and the office. The guest room and Cole’s room are right beside each other and identical in size. The office is bit smaller but we decided to make it Emery’s room. Two reasons we choose the smaller room, night time crying will be a bit further away and hopefully won’t wake Cole up and we just really didn’t feel like moving the guest bedroom furniture. I’m sure when she’s older and mad about having the smaller room all our reasons why we picked the smaller room will sound silly to her.

So now the dining room has turned into the office. The space will be used 100% more, in three years we have lived there we never used the dinning room once. With such a large eat in kitchen area there really isn’t a need for it. So after finishing up the new office space we moved onto Cole’s big boy bedroom. We really didn’t want to invest in another crib for Emery and after speaking with Cole’s doctor they suggested we make the transition from crib to bed about 3 months before Emery. So he wouldn't experience to many big transitions all at once. My intention was to put all this new furniture in and redecorate his room but not move him out of the crib till late October. Why rush it right?! Well the funny thing about kids sometimes they have other plans.

When Cole saw his bedroom all done and the big boy bed…first thing out of his mouth was “Can I sleep here?!?” So anxiously we tested out this new found interest in the big boy bed and let him take a nap there. And wouldn’t you know it he did great! He woke up so proud of himself telling everyone he now sleeps in a big boy bed! We moved the crib out before bedtime, Cole asked where he’s crib had gone but I just talked up the big boy bed and that I would come check up on him later after he falls asleep… it seems to have done the trick. The last three nights have gone off without a hitch. He hasn’t even attempted to get off the bed yet, I’m sure it will happen at some point but for now I’m blissfully proud of my little man!

So here is Cole’s new big boy room

I made this one myself all for about $15, with a frame, wooden letter, mod podge and an old map of the Maryland area.

Cole is thrilled with his new room and loves pointing out all the airplanes and motorcycles. The sweetest part about the room to me is that the furniture were using was Cam’s growing up. Isn’t it in great condition!?! We painted the room beige and got new drapes to match the duvet cover which was from West Elm, the sheets from PBK, the pillow from Etsy and all the Art work from Home Goods. All were pretty affordable.

Next up is Emery’s room! There is lots to do, Wainscoting, Crown molding, painting, closet organizer…the list goes on but I have gotten a few new things for her room I just adore.

Nice long weekend

The husband and me took off work today and tomorrow to make it a nice long weekend. We have lots of fun stuff planned like trips to Annapolis, finishing up Cole's big boy room, the park, a Ravens game and an early anniversary celebration. Were not only having dinner out to celebrate 4 awesome years we are also going to a concert!

As Cole goes down for his nap, I wanted to share a picture from this morning.

Morning in Annapolis 094

I can't wait to see him as big brother!

20 weeks, half way!

20 weeks down 20 weeks to go. This was actually last week but I’m just getting around to posting this on the blog. For the most part I’m feeling pretty good, no sickness and lots more energy. Besides some minor lower back pain at night when I overdo it no real complaints here.

I had the full anatomy scan awhile back and thankfully everything looked perfect. Emery is measuring just right and was doing flips during the ultrasound. The tech said “good luck with this one”, I could only laugh. If Emery is anything like her brother we are well aware this means non-stop movement.

With 19 weeks to go I have some work to do with Cole and his sister’s name. When we were picking out names we would ask Cole to say them to hear how it sounded. Well one of those names was Sydney, we obviously picked the name Emery well Cole picked Sydney. Whenever you ask him about his sister he says Sydney with a big grin…like he knows it’s not right but he’s made he’s choice. I got him to say Emery a few times this weekend but this may take some work. Poor girl may have two names when she joins us :)

She has a name!

Oh folks picking a name for your child is hard work. For me I like unique names but not so out there people have a hard time pronouncing it. I think it comes from me being a Sarah, I can name a handful of Sarah’s I know personally and as nice as it is it’s far from unique. Thankfully my loving husband Cameron agrees completely with me. He loved his name growing up and never knew any other Cam’s. So when we set out to pick a name for our little girl we both wrote down a few names we liked. We both vetoed some right off the bat…like hubs Sienna …all I think of when I hear that name is the Toyota Sienna Minivan. So that wouldn't work. We both really liked the name Avery but its become extremely popular recently and we really wanted unique. The list grew but no name jumped out at us.

And then I came across Emery, I loved it right away. I only hoped Hubs would share my feelings for it. And wouldn’t you know it he did! I know it was/ is originally a boy name but I just don’t see anything manly about the name Emery. It’s so pretty to us. And when Cole tries to say Emery it comes out sounding like Emmy. Oh swoon. How I love it.

So Emery Gail Shinaberry , we are so excited to have picked out a name for you and can’t wait to till February to meet you.
