Nursery Rhymes..My kid loves them

After a very busy but fun long weekend in Charlotte for both work and play I couldn't wait to get home yesterday! We all headed over to my parents house and enjoyed the last moments of the weekend for dinner. My little man seems to have grown up while I was gone...really how does it that happen?! It was only four days!Anyway, we were all outside eating and talking and Cole kept singing all his songs trying to get everyone attention. Itsy Bitsy Spider, Row Row Your Boat, and Twinkle Twinkle over and over. Kid loves his Nursery Rhymes. I finally got a little bit of it on camera. This one is twinkle twinkle with a mouth full of food. Hey what can i say it's the best i could get..like a normal toddler when prompted to sing for the camera he is not a fan!

So happy to be home and hear his voice!

My Boys

It really never gets old watching my boys play.

April 1 014

Seeing them smile and laugh at each other. I rarely get a picture of it because most times I'll I can do is grin from ear to ear and giggle. Yes giggle.

April 1 015

It's amazing hearing belly laughs come out of them both... it can lift you up and make you feel all is right in the world!

Car Nap

Car Nap is a bad word in my house. I do everything in my power to make sure this does not happen. I make sure to get out early and be back way before nap time. Because my son thinks a short car nap is his nap for the day. His normal 3 hour nap is gone and the 5min snooze fest in the car is it! And the idea of transferring him from the car to crib is laughable. He won't have it. Obviously some days I push it really close to the 1pm nap time, but that's when i start resorting to pretty much anything to keep him awake. Turning up the music, grabbing at his feet, moving the windows up and down and snacks! On this particular day we were on our way back from Richmond and had timed it well so we would be home by nap time. But we made an unexpected stop to IKEA and we pushed the 1pm nap time. After trying just about everything to keep him awake and less than 5miles from our house I pulled out a doughnut. Don't judge..we were desperate!

As you can see it didn't work. But my kid loves doughnut and found a way to still eat while napping. You can't make this stuff up! And of course when we got home he woke up and didn't nap the rest of the day. Ugg I hate the dreaded car nap!

Timeout

We have started to introduce timeouts in our house. Like most almost 2 year olds my child has his moments and tries to test us. Thankfully they are far and few between. We feel having a plan of action to this behavior would be a good thing. At first Cole really didn’t understand the concept of timeout. But after he’s second time in the corner he seemed to understand that if he acted out or didn’t listen to Mama or Dada that he would have to sit in timeout. It is work in progress but it seemed to be effective.

Then comes yesterday,

Cole: Is swinging his golf club against the kitchen cabinets
Me: “Cole do not swing at the cabinets”
Cole: Looks at me and swings away at the cabinets
Me: I start counting “1, 2 , do you want to go to timeout?”
Cole: “Timeout!”, he proceeds to run to the corner and stand there smiling.

Damn if I didn’t start laughing. Really, did he just put himself in timeout?!?! I let him stand there for a minute then walked over and explained to him that we don’t hit the cabinets with the golf club, timeout is over.

Later that night we are sitting in the basement ..my parents are over and we are talking about so and so. Cole is over in his play area and he starts to bang his tractor against the hardwood floors.

Me: “Cole please don’t bang the tractor, be gentle”
Cole: Jumps up , shouts “Timeout!” and proceeds to run to the corner.

Oh kid you crack me up! Obviously my child does not fear the threat of timeout…heck he seems to like it! So I’m not 100% sure our plan to action to discipline Cole is very effective. What I’m supposed to do if my kid LIKES timeouts?!

Easter Weekend 066 Buttercups

When I was a little girl I remember my sister and me taking buttercups and holding them under our chins to see if you could see yellow. And if you did?!? You loved butter. Of course Right?! Ha. I love how small memories of my childhood sneak up on me when I see Cole experiencing things for the first time.

Hoppy Easter!

This year we spent Easter weekend at my sister’s house in Richmond. It was a jam packed trip that included a petting zoo, dying eggs, an egg hunt and way to much chocolate. Is it me or do kids make Holidays so much more fun? I was downright giddy to get his Easter basket ready and stuff the eggs for the hunt. I suppose it’s because I knew just how excited he would be about all of it. When I explained to Cole the Easter Bunny had visited and left a basket and eggs for him to find…his response…Hop Hop, Chocolate Eggs! Let’s just say the shirt and stuffed animal I put in the basket were thrown to the side, the kid went straight for the candy and shouted OPEN! God love him, he has a sweet tooth just like his Dada.

My sister set up the egg dying table outside, we used kool aid and a big whisk to make the experience toddler friendly. Cole enjoyed dropping the eggs in the cups ten times more than using the whisk.

Cole loves his Uncle Chris! All weekend whenever he would walk out of the room Cole would yell Chris and go chasing after him!

The Egg Hunt didn’t exactly go as planned. This being Cole’s second hunt I figured it would be just as fun as the first egg hunt he did last week . Turns out with no other kids to hunt with Cole lost interest fast. In fact he just started opening the eggs and eating the candy right out of them!

Rainy Day

032

It was a rainy Saturday last month, most of the morning we had stayed in snuggling on the couch watching one episode after another of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I was more than content to just lay around and be lazy but Cole was begging to be outside. I tried to explain to him it was rainy and cold out and we had to stay in but it went in one ear and out the other. “Outside Mama!” he said over and over. His big blue eyes staring up at me I decided right then and there …hell with the rain lets go outside! I put him in his rain coat and boots and we made our way outside. Our home is about 4 streets away from the community public beach. “Beach, Agua, Rocks” Cole shouted to me. So off we went down to the beach. Cole knows exactly how to get there.

He picked up rocks and jumped in puddles along the way. My hesitation to keep him out of the slim and grime fell to the waste side when I saw the joy in his face. He was loving every second of the walk. He’s all boy. And I LOVE it!

If you would have told me that I would be playing in the dirt, picking up rocks and sticks, jumping in muddy puddles and poking at worms a few years back I would have never believed you. But I can’t imagine it any other way now. I’m a boy’s mom to my core.
